Soldiers in the US military have been issued bags since before the Civil War. Early on, there were Knapsacks. Rugged, single cavity bags made for long movements. The need for more pockets and organization for quick access to smaller essentials like food, water, and weaponry brought us the M1945 during WWII. It was named after the year it was manufactured and issued. These bags inspired us to develop the M23 rucksack, also named after the year it was manufactured and “issued.”
We took what we loved about this pack: the top load, exterior pockets, and front buckles, and carried it over to a modern rucksack. We’ve upgraded the M1945 to the GORUCK standard of extra padded shoulder straps and top handle, the highest quality YKK zippers, a streamlined closure system, a bombproof laptop compartment, and additional pockets for even more organization. It’s lightweight low profile for everyday carry.
This limited run is built with Dyneema®, which is 15 times stronger than steel and 40% stronger than its main rival, Kevlar. It has a crazy high tear strength that is around five times higher than a like-for-like fabric made using HT-Nylon. Amazing abrasion resistance.

Similar to the M1945, which had external pockets for quick access to weapons & supplies, our M23 Ruck has multiple exterior pockets for quick access to items like water bottles, phones, laptops and wallets.

Get quick access to the main compartment from multiple angles. Open up the lid of the ruck for access from the top, or use the side zipper for quick access even if your ruck is still over your shoulder.
The separate compartment next to your back is extra reinforced to securely take a laptop into combat.
Flip up the lid of the ruck, throw all of your gear inside, and still have access to everything you need while your ruck is still sitting upright. The front closure system features adjustable Fidlock Buckles.
Shoulder straps and top handle are extra padded to carry heavier loads more comfortably.
All-new 210D HT (High Tenacity) CORDURA® on the back panel and underside of the shoulder straps doesn't irritate skin or chew up apparel (looking at you, merino wool).
